When you think of a budget desktop, what comes to mind? Integrated graphics, very few ports, and an extremely boring case, right? Well the Micro Express MicroFlex 23B does have an extremely boring case, but it's otherwise a pleasant surprise--with a discrete graphics card and USB ports to spare--considering it's labeled "budget. The MicroFlex 23B costs just $600 (as of 5/26/11), but has some impressive features for the price. Sure, there's the 3.3GHz Sandy Bridge Intel Core i3-2120 processor, the 4GB of RAM, and the 500GB hard drive, but none of these features are particularly out of the MicroFlex 23B's price point. However, the Blu-ray drive and the AMD Radeon HD 6670 are nice touches, not to mention the 64-bit version of Windows 7 Home Premium and a pair of USB 3.0 ports.

Lenovo H320 budget desktop PCThe Lenovo H320 is a slim rig that greatly resembles the rest of the budget desktop pack. But although it's lacking a little in ports and graphics support, it brings a lot to the table--including 6GB of RAM, a Blu-ray combo drive, and excellent performance for the category.
Our review model, priced at $699 (as of March 31, 2011), features a 3.2GHz Intel i5-650 processor, an Nvidia GeForce 310 discrete graphics card, and 6GB of RAM. This slender desktop also holds a Blu-ray drive and runs the 64-bit version of
The good: The Lenovo H320 has a strong assortment of performance and digital entertainment features, as well as a competitive price.
The bad: The case is plastered with unsightly stickers and there are no dedicated digital audio output options.
The bottom line: Lenovo's
slim tower H320 40411FU is a high-value system that's well-suited to
home entertainment, day-to-day productivity, or a mix of both.

Cons: Get a lot of blue screens with windows 7. I updated all software that win 7 gave me the stiff arm over and installed all the other that it would install. I'm sure it is a win 7 problem however I bought a low end dell laptop running win 7 using the same software and never get a blue screen!!Other Thoughts: overall I'm happy. Most blue screens occur when software is left 'open' for a long period of time w/o activity. It rarely blue screens when I'm actively using it. My 1st and only incidence of this was running MS outlook 2007 with Quickbooks Pro 2010 at same time

It’s small, it’s inexpensive, and it’s not upgradable--but why would you want to rip the Blu-ray player out of this superskinny system anyway? That said, considering the $100 markdown from the 2011 model, this system's lack of innovation is not necessarily a bad thing. But it shouldn’t be too much to ask for some evolutionary changes—even minor ones—in terms of system design and performance.
